Vanilla Ice Cream with Toasted Sesame Seeds & Sea Salt

Last Updated on June 3, 2023

There is something about the flavor combination of sweet & salty that we go crazy for! If you like that flavor profile, try this dessert with even a more surprise ingredient. Sesame Seeds! This Vanilla Ice Cream with Toasted Sesame Seeds & Sea Salt is not your regular ice cream with same old toppings!

You don’t even need to make your own ice cream! Just make sure to use a good vanilla ice cream but we highly suggest to make homemade toasted sesame seeds to enhance the flavor!

Why Toasted Sesame Seeds?

Many Westerners recognize sesame seeds as something that goes with savory dishes only. In Asian countries like Japan and China, they use them not only for savory dishes but also for desserts. For example, one of the popular Chinese desserts is “sesame balls.” They are made with glutenous rice flour (like mochi) which has sweet bean fillings in the hollow center and coated with sesame seeds and deep fried. They are super delicious! For Japanese desserts, there are sesame puddings, skewered mochi balls with black sesame seeds paste, cookies and more!

The Toasted Sesame Seeds

Now, please try to use homemade toasted sesame seeds if possible for this particular dessert. It’s all about the great flavor from quality ingredients. You can check out the recipe of our homemade one here. We promise the result will be 100% times better than using store bought ones. It just won’t be the same experience with the alternatives.

The Vanilla Ice Cream

Our favorite go-to vegan ice cream is the ones from Revolution Gelato. There are many vegan ice cream brands available in the U.S but this particular company makes really creamy, organic, vegan, and gluten-free gelato. Most importantly, they all taste amazing! I also like their philosophy of using selected clean & ethically ingredients.

There are various interesting flavors available and their Full Throttle Vanilla is perfect for this dessert!

The Sea Salt

Again, make sure to use good course sea salt to sprinkle. Obviously, you don’t need a lot but you really want to bring out the flavor of the quality ingredients and flavor of the vanilla ice cream and toasted sesame seeds. We use Fleur de Sel from Bitterman’s.
